Toyota Industries Corporation (President: Akira Onishi) announces that its cumulative production volume of engines in Japan reached 20 million on February 17.
Toyota Industries reached this milestone in the 68th year since it started production of its first automobile engine at the Kariya Plant in April 1953. The company reached the 15-million unit mark eight years earlier in February 2013.

Toyota Industries engine business began in 1953 with production of the S-type gasoline engine for the Toyota Corona and other models. In 1955, production was transferred to the Kyowa Plant and production of industrial engines for lift trucks began in 1964. In 1982, the company built Hekinan Plant, specifically for engine manufacturing, and began producing the C-type diesel engine for the Toyota Corolla, Camry, and other models.

Presently, Toyota Industries is producing 1.0- to 5.2-liter class engines for automobiles and industrial applications at three plants: the Hekinan Plant, Higashichita Plant, and the Indian subsidiary TIEI*1. The company is producing engines for a wide range of Toyota brand vehicles, centered on the GD-type diesel engine (installed in the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Toyota's globally strategic vehicle IMV*2) and the TNGA gasoline engine (installed in the Toyota RAV4), which are the mainstay production engine models.
Although the company's FY2021*3 business has been adversely affected by the spread of COVID-19, the company is planning to produce 779 K units, the same level as the previous year, thanks to a recovery in the automobile market, including continued strong sales of the RAV4 and other models.

Toyota Industries is committed to pursuing technologies for both automobiles and industrial applications to continue improving them and to provide them to customers worldwide.
