Sakichi Toyoda, the founder of Toyota Industries Corporation, possessed a strong ambition to contribute to society from his days as a youth. He had devoted his 63-year-long life to invention.
Coexistence with Local Communities
Participation in the Kariya Mando Festival
Since 2002, we have participated in the traditional summer festival "Kariya Mando Matsuri (Aichi Prefecture designated intangible cultural property)" held in Kariya city, where our head office is located, with the local people.
From a few months before the festival, the local people have been playing a central role in the production and repair work of Mando.
Through repair work, musical accompaniment practice, and participation in the Mando Matsuri, we will deepen exchanges with local residents and enliven the traditional events of Kariya city.
Getting communities active through rugby
Our company rugby team, the Toyota Industries Shuttles, holds children's rugby clinic and participates in local family-friendly sports festivals, with the aim of interacting with members of the community.
Since 2021, we began school visit to hold rugby classes.
In those classes, we demonstrated tackling and passing, and played tag to teach the children the fun of rugby and the importance of teamwork.
The Shuttles are also active in other social contribution activities, which they use to build strong bonds of trust with the people of the community.
Local cleanup activities
Every autumn we take advantage of our lunch breaks and conduct a company-wide environment beautification campaign to clean up the areas surrounding each of our domestic plants. We also call on our group companies to participate, bringing in some 5000 employee volunteers each year.
Community Meeting
We hold community meetings with local residents for the purpose of sharing information about and finding possible solutions to various local problems.
The participants in the meetings are representatives from the local community and also from the related departments at our company, such as the General Administration Dept. and the Environment Dept. When necessary, local government officers in charge may also attend the discussions. Opinions are exchanged on various topics, including our business activities and the associated environmental risks, community events, crime and disaster prevention, and traffic safety.
Crime Prevention Patrol Activities
As a part of crime prevention activities in close cooperation with the local community, we have designated all dates that contain the numeral five as a "patrol day" when our employees volunteer for crime prevention patrol activities as one of many of the company's long-standing community-based activities. Toyota Industries Corporation employees also participate in year-end patrols in cooperation with the local police force and community crime prevention patrol groups with the aim of working together with residents to keep our towns safe.
Traffic Safety Activities
As an automotive-related manufacturer, Toyota Industries is aiming to achieve the goal of "zero traffic accidents". Based on the concept of "promoting traffic safety activities as a positive example to society", we actively put effort into providing traffic safety-related educational programs and cooperating with community in traffic safety activities. During national traffic safety campaigns, our executives and employees work with the community, local government agencies, and other members of the Toyota Group to promote traffic safety-including participating in roadside traffic safety patrols.
Cooperating in Local Firefighting Operations and Becoming a “Partner of Firefighters” (Subsidiary outside Japan)

In rural areas near Bersndorf in the Free State of Saxony, where TDDK is located, local fire brigades are mostly on a volunteer basis and in case of need volunteer firefighters get an alert. TDDK supports their activities through donations as well as encouraging and allowing associates to respond to alert calls during their work time. As a show of gratitude, TDDK was honored as a “Partner of Firefighters” in October 2019 by the county’s head of firefighters. TDDK will continue its ongoing efforts to cooperate in local firefighting operations.

Highway cleaning activities(Subsidiary outside Japan)

MACI has participated in the city beautification activity called "Adopt-A-Highway" in collaboration with the government for more than 20 years.
MACI is responsible for two miles on the I-94 highway between Chicago and Detroit, wearing a government-issued fluorescent safety vest twice a year in spring and autumn for about two hours. We are working hard on cleaning activities.
