Reduction of Air Pollutants

Due to the use of oil cokes in the casting process of the engine business in the Higashichita Plant we generate sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are considered to be causes of acid rain.
SOx emissions into the atmosphere substantially declined as a result of introducing a system to recover these gases, improvements in our manufacturing facilities, and changes in the fuels we use.
On the other hand, total NOx emissions have increased due to the greater use of city gas for the co-generation systems. The systems were additionally introduced at our five plants to reduce CO2 emissions in fiscal 2006.
