The Story of Sakichi Toyoda
Sakichi Toyoda, the founder of Toyota Industries Corporation, possessed a strong ambition to contribute to society from his days as a youth. He had devoted his 63-year-long life to invention.
We jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation an on-board battery for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and started production for the Toyota Aqua at the Kyowa Plant in May 2021.
In order to contribute to the expansion and widespread use of electrified vehicles toward carbon neutrality, we intend to expand the battery lineup that is
compatible with a diverse range of electrified vehicles. At the same time, we will establish a production line at the new Ishihama Plant in fiscal 2023 to ensure a stable supply.
One of Toyota Industries’ strengths is its comprehensive development spanning from finding and designing materials to product design and assessment throughout the development of batteries.
The newly developed bipolar nickel-hydrogen battery utilizes our unique material synthesis technology, simulation technology for examining materials and structures and analysis technology. Compared with conventional batteries, it is more compact and boasts higher output.
