The compressors in car airconditioners are usually driven by a belt system that conveys the engines revolutions to the compressor. In hybrid vehicles, however, the engine stops when the vehicle is idle or running on battery, so an electric compressor was developed to enable the airconditioner to continue to operate even while the engine stops. The airconditioner can also still operate during idling stops, providing both comfort and fuel efficiency.
