Toyota Industries provides a variety of events and opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy social exchange with members of the community and interacting with the natural environment.
* The activities (examples) presented on this page are carried out by Toyota Industries Corporation in Japan, but do not represent those organized by our subsidiaries or affiliates.
This
event is held each year in spring and we invite residents of local welfare facilities
to participate in it with an aim of promoting greater interaction with nature
and also exchange with residents from other facilities. In FY 2007 we invited
nearly 300 people to this event and 106 new students of the Toyota Industries
Vocational School helped as volunteers.
This
annual event is held in collaboration with the Kariya City Social Welfare Council.
We invite people with disabilities and their families from Kariya City to our
company's own welfare facility, "Shine's" to
spend a fun-filled day making crafts, playing various games, singing, dancing,
and interacting with the volunteers. Every year over 300 people attend this event,
making it a great success.
We invite residents of local welfare facilities to the "Denpark" ("The flower and greenery theme park" located in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture) to enjoy the tastes of the season by picking strawberries with us in the spring and digging for sweet potatoes in the fall. This event is held in collaboration with AISIN SEIKI Co., Ltd. and former employees from both companies volunteer to plant and raise the strawberries and sweet potatoes.
As
part of the social contribution activities carried out by the whole Toyota Industries
Group, every year in September our employees submit gift items and unused items
for donation to welfare organizations and other groups. In FY 2007 we donated
a total of 3701 items to 14 organizations.
During the Grand Sumo Tournament in Nagoya, the Shibatayama sumo stable (Stable master: O-no-Kuni, a former Yokozuna) is set up within Toyota Industries' Obu Plant. Since the year 2000 we have been making use of this time period to have the stable master and his pupils make continuing visits to welfare facilities.
The
Special Olympics is an international sports organization for individuals with
intellectual disabilities. The sporting events planned by this organization allow
the athletes, their families, and volunteers to come together as one. The aim
is not only to promote physical development and help the athletes to improve
their athletic abilities, but also to foster their courage and determination
to take on new challenges, and to have them share in the joy of accomplishment
and the joy of living. Toyota Industries is proud to support these sporting events
and provides the use of company sports facilities and volunteers to help running
of these events.
Every
year Toyota Industries holds an annual "Welfare Concert" at the Kariya
City Civic Center performed by the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra. We invite
people from welfare facilities and students from schools for the people with
disabilities to attend. The concert is organized with the cooperation of eight
Toyota Group companies in Kariya.
Toyota
Industries sets up booths for NPOs and other welfare organizations at various
company events in order to give them the opportunity to sell their products directly.
In FY 2007 these organizations have started selling sweets, such as pudding,
cream puffs, and cakes in the company cafeteria.
The World Terakoya Movement supports the creation of educational environments for people around the world who cannot read or write or do simple calculations. The Hunger Free World organization undertakes activities for the purpose of eradicating hunger and poverty. The employees of Toyota Industries Group companies supply un-mailed postcards, used pre-paid telephone cards, and used CDs or DVDs that are then donated to both of these worthy causes.
