Development of Plastic Glazing that Contribute to Vehicle Weight Reduction
In recent years, global environmental issues have been most important. In this trend, the auto manufactures pursue the weight-reduction items that directly influence the fuel consumption. Among those items, Plastic Glazing is expected to be realized instead of glass one rapidly.
Our developed plastic glazing is treated hard coat that have high weatherability, high hardness, and beautiful surface quality equal to glass.
The world's largest plastic panoramic roof*1 (Fig.1) is adopted for "prius α" of Toyota Motor Corporation, and it achieved about 40% weight-saving compared with the one made of the glass. And, the plastic quarter window and the partition(Fig.2) are adpted for "LEXUS LFA". The quater window is achieved about 30% weight-saving, and the partition about 45% weight-saving. We contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by improvement of gas-mileage.
