Development of Plastic Windows that Contribute to Vehicle Weight Reduction

The new polycarbonate plastic window for cars developed by Toyota Industries boasts excellent resistance in impact testing and makes possible a dramatic increase in the degree of freedom in automotive exterior designing.
Toyota Motor Corporation used this plastic window in 1999 for the sunroof of the Celica. The sunroof, which overlapped with further improvements such as reducing the number of parts, etc., was also used in the new RAV4.

In terms of environmental protection efforts, this product is 30-40% lighter than a comparable product made with inorganic glass, contributing to vehicle weight reduction and energy conservation.
