DC-DC Converters that will Contribute to the Fuel Efficiency of Hybrid Vehicles

DC-DC converter for the Toyota Prius

The DC-DC converter for the Toyota Prius converts the high voltage of the main battery to the lower 12V voltage for the auxiliary battery. By placing the filter in an effective position, we were able to suppress radio noise and achieve highly-efficient converter performance. Also, we made it possible for the auxiliary battery to continue charging while the vehicle is at an idling stop, which will contribute to improved fuel efficiency in hybrid vehicles. In addition, as a part of weight reduction measures a custom IC chip was introduced which reduced the number of parts and lead to an almost 30% reduction in the mass of the converter.
