Development of Low Exhaust Emissions Diesel Engines

2AD Diesel Engine

2AD Diesel Engine

Because diesel engines feature high thermal efficiency and good fuel efficiency, they have excellent characteristics in view of preventing global warming. In recent years, as regulations concerning diesel engine exhaust emissions have become more severe, conforming to these regulations has become an increasingly important development issue.
Toyota Industries develops and manufactures diesel engines for passenger cars, industrial vehicles, and industrial equipment. The 2AD diesel engine, that is equipped on the RAV4 and other vehicles aimed at the European market, was jointly developed with the Toyota Motor Corporation. Through the use of new technologies like the latest DPNR, piezo injectors, a high pressure injection system, and a low compression ratio, etc. performance was achieved that makes the exhaust gas from this engine far cleaner than required by the European Exhaust Gas Regulations (EUROIV).
