Maintaining and improving the natural environment while also aiming to achieve sustainable development is one of the most important issues facing society today. The Toyota Industries Group is now drawing up a concrete implementation program for its Environmental Action Plan, based on its Global Environmental Commitment.
The main action items include 1) curbing global warming, 2) recycling natural resources, 3) risk management for substances of concern, and environmental management so that these items can be continuously improved upon, as well as contributing to society. In November of 2006 the ”Environmentally Friendly Product Certification System” was established, based on our own independent certification standards, with the purpose of releasing information to the public and evaluating the degree to which items 1) to 3) above are being properly incorporated into our product development activities.
This system conforms to the Type II Environmental Label (ISO14021) prescribed by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization).

Our company's products will be subject to an ”Environmental Factor Evaluation”, which will assess numerically the level of improvement in environmental efficiency, and a ”Development Process Evaluation”, which will assess how well various items related to the environment were incorporated into the product during its development. Products which satisfy all of our internal standards will then gain certification.

Normally, the self-declaration by itself would be sufficient to satisfy the required standards of JIS and ISO. However, in order to further ensure the reliability of this system our company has requested an evaluation of its validity by an independent verifying agency.
